Removing and installing sealing flange (front) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Counterhold tool -3415-

t  Assembly tool -T10053- t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Safety goggles t  Sealant → Parts catalogue

Removing l  Engine in vehicle. –  Remove toothed belt → Chapter. –  Remove crankshaft sprocket; use counterhold tool -3415- to lock sprocket in place. –  Remove sump → Chapter.

–  Unscrew bolts -1 ... 6-. –  Lever off sealing flange and remove.

Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: –  Carefully remove sealant residue from cylinder block.   WARNING Wear safety goggles. –  Remove sealant residue from sealing flange using a rotating plastic brush or similar. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

–  Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle approx. 2 mm Ø).

–  Apply the bead of sealant onto the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange as illustrated -arrow-. l  Thickness of sealant bead: 2 ... 3 mm   Note t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe. t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant. –  Fit sealing flange and tighten bolts hand-tight.   Note Use guide sleeve -T10053/1- to attach sealing flange with oil seal fitted. –  Tighten bolts for sealing flange in diagonal sequence. –  Install sump → Anchor.   Note After installing, allow sealant to dry for approx. 30 minutes Then (and only then) fill the engine with engine oil. –  Install crankshaft oil seal (pulley end) → Chapter. –  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor. Tightening torque
