• ◆ Removal/installation tool 3450/3
• ◆ Puller T10112

• ● Engine in vehicle

Notes:

• ◆ All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing.
• ◆ If engine oil is contaminated perform oil change:

• ‒ Refer to coding on vehicles with encoded radio/radio navigation system (RNS); if necessary, interrogate.
• ‒ Disconnect earth strap at battery with ignition switched off.
• ‒ Drain coolant .

Vehicles with engine code AKL:

• ‒ → Unscrew protective cover -arrows- on vehicle floor.
• ‒ Unplug connector for lambda probe upstream of catalytic converter and lay wiring aside.

All models:

• ‒ → Unbolt heat shield for right drive shaft -arrows-.

Note:

The isolating element in front exhaust pipe must not be deflected more than 10°to avoid damage.

• ‒ → Remove securing bolts -arrows- of front exhaust pipe/exhaust manifold.
• ‒ Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
• ‒ Remove upper section of intake manifold => Page 15-11.

• ‒ → Unplug connector -arrow- at Hall sender -G40.
• ‒ Unclip the wiring duct at the intake manifold and detach the connectors for the injectors.
• ‒ Move wiring harness aside.
• ‒ Detach the spark plug connectors using puller T10112.

• ‒ Unbolt bracket for engine cover.
• ‒ Position crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1 with engine installed => Page 13-39.
• ‒ Position crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1 with engine removed => Page 13-43.
• ‒ Removing toothed belt from camshaft sprocket
  .
• ‒ Disconnect coolant hose from cylinder head (left side).

• ‒ → Detach the left connection from the cylinder head -arrows- and lay aside.

Note:

The coolant hoses remain attached at the connection.

• ‒ Removing cylinder head cover => page 15-32

• ‒ → Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence 1...10.
• ‒ Remove cylinder head.
