Note:

• ◆ The secondary air system is monitored by the engine control unit -J361:

=> Simos Fuel Injection and Ignition System; Repair group 01

• ◆ Diagnosis of the secondary air system can also be initiated in the basic setting function, display group 077.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1

Test sequence

• ‒ Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics". For this purpose, the engine must be running at idling speed.

=> Simos Fuel Injection and Ignition System; Repair group 01

→ Display on VAS 5051:

• ‒ Under -1- select diagnostic function "04 - Basic setting".

→ Display on VAS 5051:

•     1 -    Enter display group

• ‒ Enter "077" for "display group number 077" in zone -2- and confirm the entry by pressing the Q key.

→ Display on VAS 5051:

• ‒ Check display in display zone -4-.
• ‒ Depress the brake pedal, the engine speed increases to approx. 1400 rpm.

Test conditions:

• ● Brake pedal depressed, engine speed approx. 1400 rpm.

Note:

This test can only be performed once per engine start.

• ‒ Hold down the brake pedal until the result of the diagnosis is displayed in display zone 4.

Note:

The test takes approx. 30 seconds. If the test cannot be performed, switch off the engine and start it again. The secondary air pump must run during the test.

• ‒ End function "04 - Basic setting" by pressing the ◂ key.

If specified value "Syst. OK" is attained:

• ‒ Press "06 - End output".
• ‒ Switch ignition off.

If specification is not attained:

• ‒ Interrogate fault memory, rectify faults if necessary and then erase fault memory:

• ◆ Check secondary air inlet valve -N112 .
• ◆ Check secondary air pump relay -J299 => Page 26-63.
