Removing and installing exhaust manifold > < Separating centre and rear silencers

Removing and installing front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter
Removing
–  Unscrew protective cover -arrows- on vehicle underbody.

–  Unplug electrical connector (brown) for Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130- and move wiring clear.

–  Unbolt heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) -arrows-.

–  Remove securing nuts on front exhaust pipe/exhaust manifold -arrows-.
  Note
To avoid damage, the flexible joints in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°.

–  Separate exhaust system at clamp -arrows-.
–  Remove front exhaust pipe (pivot front exhaust pipe through 180°).

Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew gaskets and self-locking nuts.
–  Tighten bolt connections on front exhaust pipe/exhaust manifold in the sequence -1 ... 6-.
–  Align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter.

l  1) Lubricate exhaust manifold studs with high-temperature paste. For high-temperature paste refer to → Parts catalogue.
l  2) Renew self-locking nuts.
