Display zone 3 should read "Idling".
If the specified value "Idling" is not achieved:
-
‒ Switch the ignition off.
-
‒ Connect the V.A.G 1598/22 test box to the wiring harness for the engine control unit
.
-
‒ Measure the resistance between contacts 67 and 69 using the V.A.G 1526 hand held multimeter.
- Specified value: continuity (throttle valve closed)
-
‒ Open the throttle valve slightly.
- Specified value: No continuity (idling speed switch should open)
If the specified value is not achieved:
-
‒ Check the wiring for short circuit to positive or earth and open circuit.

-
‒ If necessary, rectify open circuit or short circuit.
=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations binder
If no wiring faults are detected:
-
‒ Inspect throttle valve for dirt or stiffness and clean if necessary.

‒ Perform adaptation of the throttle valve control unit .
-
‒ If it is not possible to start the adaptation or successfully conclude it:
-
‒ Detach the throttle cable.
-
‒ Repeat the adaptation of the throttle valve control unit once more => Page 24-79.
-
‒ If it is once again not possible to start or conclude successfully the adaptation of the throttle valve control unit, replace the throttle valve control unit. Perform the adaptation again.
