Checking throttle valve positioner

Notes:

  • ◆ This signal is used by the control unit for the automatic gearbox in conjunction with the engine speed for various things including for calculating the engine torque output.
  • ◆ The signal is output by contact 7 on the engine control unit.
  • ‒ Connect the V.A.G. 1551 fault reader .
  • ‒ Start the self diagnosis of the gearbox control unit.

=> Automatic Gearbox 01M; Repair Group 01; Perform self diagnosis.

  • ‒ If the gearbox control unit displays fault 00638 "Engine/gearbox electrical connection 2", interrogate the engine control unit's fault memory => Page 01-7.

If the engine control unit has recorded a fault relating to the throttle valve potentiometer:

  • ‒ Rectify this fault first. (In this case the fault recorded in the gearbox control unit is then only a secondary fault.)

A28-0022

If no fault relating to the throttle valve potentiometer is displayed:

  • ‒ → Connect the V.A.G 1598/22 test box to the wiring harness for the engine control unit
    => Page 24-8.
  • ‒ Check the wiring from contact 7 of the engine control unit (test box V.A.G 1598/22) to the gearbox control unit for an open circuit or short circuit.
