Roughly the current vehicle speed must be displayed (approx. comparison with speedometer). If reading does not match specification, check wiring

If vehicle speed is not displayed:

‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to engine control unit wiring harness. Actual engine control unit is not to be connected.
Check for short to positive/earth and open circuit in the following wiring.

- Resistance: max. 1.5 ohms

‒ If necessary, eliminate open circuit in wiring/short circuit.
If no fault is found in wiring:

‒ Identify all components making use of vehicle speed signal (e.g. radio, automatic gearbox, air conditioner), consecutively disconnect them from dash panel insert and repeat test until cause has been established.
