Motronic injection and ignition system (4-cyl.)
Basic setting
Basic setting

With "engine stopped and ignition off", the following operation can be performed with basic setting "function 04":

  • ◆ Adaption of throttle valve control part to engine control unit
  • ◆ Adaption of exhaust gas recirculation valve to engine control unit
    =>Display group 074 .

With "engine running", basic setting "function 04" can be used to perform the following operations:

  • ◆ Lambda control adaption
  • ◆ Fault-finding by way of specific activation and deactivation of lambda control
  • ◆ Diagnosis of secondary air system
  • ◆ Vehicles with automatic gearbox: Adaption of kickdown function of accelerator pedal position sender to engine control unit =>Display group 063 ().

Test conditions for operations with engine running

  • ● No faults stored in fault memory
  • ● Coolant temperature at least 85 °C
  • ● If fault memory has been erased or engine control unit disconnected from permanent positive supply, readiness code must be regenerated .
  • ● Electrical consumers off (radiator fan must not be running during test)
  • ● Air conditioner off
  • ● Selector lever set to P or N
  • ● Wheels straightahead
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552). Then start engine and select engine control unit with "Address word" 01.

  • ‒ Interrogating and erasing fault memory
    => Page 01-14. There must not be any faults stored (if necessary, eliminate fault, erase fault memory, switch off and restart engine, perform test drive and re-interrogate fault memory as a check).
  • ‒ Leave engine idling.

  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 4 for "Basic setting" function and confirm entry with Q key.

Enter display group number XXX
  • ‒ Select desired display group number in line with list of display groups from "Reading measured value block".

Note:

Display group number 000 is an example designed to illustrate the procedure.

  • ‒ Press key 0 three times.

(000 selects function "Display group 000".)

Note:

After selecting display group number, activated charcoal filter solenoid valve is closed and air conditioner compressor switched off.

    1)    Current values:

=> Exhaust emission test binder

  • ‒ Allow engine to idle for several minutes, coolant temperature at least 85 °C (display zone 1: at least 185).

Notes:

  • ◆ Current display is printed out each time PRINT key is pressed.
  • ◆ Press C key before selecting further display groups.
  • ‒ Press ⇒ key if readings match specifications in all display zones.
