Motronic injection and ignition system (4-cyl.)

Encoding engine control unit

Notes:

◆ Control unit must be encoded if code displayed does not correspond to vehicle or if control unit has been replaced.
◆ Encoding is checked with fault reader V.A.G 1551.
◆ A 5-position code must always be displayed during control unit identification.
◆ Incorrect encoding can lead to poorer emission values and greater strain on the automatic gearbox due to gearshift jolts.

‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552). Then start engine and select engine control unit with "Address word" 01.

Select function XX

‒ Press keys 0 and 7 for "Encode control unit" function and confirm entry with Q key.

→ Indicated on display:

Encode control unit Q

Enter code number xxxxx (0-32000)

Example of code number composition:

EUIII (emission standard)	10
Front-wheel drive with TCS/ESP		5
Manual gearbox			0
Audi A3				0
Code number	10	5	0	0

→ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 displays control unit identification, e.g.:

Note:

Code entered is activated when ignition is next switched on.
