Interrogating and erasing fault memory
Fault table
Notes:
-
◆ Faults occurring in monitored sensors or components are stored in fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
-
◆ Faults of relevance to the electronic throttle system are additionally indicated by way of a warning lamp ("EPC warning lamp") in the dash panel insert.
-
◆ Unplugging engine control unit connector or disconnecting battery causes all learned values in control unit to be erased. Content of fault memory is however retained. If engine is then started, rough idling may occur for a brief period. If this is the case, allow engine to idle for several minutes until learning process has been completed.
-
◆ The fault table is arranged according to the 5-digit fault codes on the left.
-
◆ If a stored fault does not reoccur within the next 40 warm-up phases, the fault code is erased automatically.
-
◆ Sporadic faults are marked "SP" on the V.A.G 1551 display.
-
◆ Do not immediately replace components indicated as being defective by V.A.G 1551, but rather: Start by checking wiring and connectors to these components in line with current flow diagram. Also use current flow diagram to check earth connections. This is particularly important if faults are output as being "sporadic" (SP).
