Checking auxiliary signals
Checking engine speed signal
Note:
The engine speed signal is output at contact 37 of the engine control unit. The signal is necessary, among other things, for the engine speed display in the dash panel insert.

‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit; do not connect the engine control unit .

‒ Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

‒ Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
