The crash signal (“Crash deactivation triggered”) is supplied to the engine control unit by the airbag control unit.
If the airbag control unit transmits the crash signal to the engine control unit (in an accident or if airbag system final control diagnosis has been performed), the engine control unit deactivates the fuel pump, i.e. the engine stops but can subsequently be re-started (e.g. to move the vehicle out of the hazard area).
–  Connect the test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to the wiring harness to the engine control unit, but do not connect the actual engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Check for open circuit and short to earth or positive in the following wiring:

–  Eliminate open circuit in wiring/short circuit if necessary. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If no fault is found in the wiring:
–  Interrogate fault memory of airbag control unit: Body, self-diagnosis → Rep. Gr.01.
