Fault table
Fault table
  Note
t  If faults occur in the monitored sensors or components, these are stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
t  Faults specific to the “electronic throttle” are additionally indicated by the electronic power control fault lamp (“EPC warning lamp”) in the dash panel insert; for notes on the electronic throttle system, refer to → Chapter.
t  Faults which cause a deterioration in emission levels are indicated by an exhaust emissions warning lamp in the dash panel insert. For notes on the exhaust emissions warning lamp, refer to → Chapter.
t  The fault table is arranged according to the 5-digit fault codes in the left-hand column.
t  If a stored fault does not re-occur within the next 40 warm-up phases, the fault code is erased automatically.
t  Sporadic faults (temporary faults) are indicated on the display → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 by “SP”. The word “sporadic” means “intermittent” or “occurring at irregular intervals”.
t  The components shown to be defective by the → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 should not be replaced immediately. Start by using the current flow diagram to check the wiring and connectors to these components. Also test the earth connections using the current flow diagram. This is particularly important in the case of “sporadic” faults, marked SP.
t  All values learnt by the engine control unit will be erased when the engine control unit connector is pulled off or the battery is disconnected. The contents of the fault memory will remain intact. Rough idling may be encountered for a brief period if the engine is then started. In this case, allow the engine to run at idle for several minutes until the adaption process has been completed.
t  If the fault memory has been erased, the readiness code must be generated again → Chapter.
