Checking coolant temperature sender G62 > < Special tools and workshop equipment required
Test sequence
Test sequence
–  Before carrying out the test, ensure that the sender is correctly installed and firmly seated.
   
–  Unplug connector for engine speed sender -arrow- (grey connector).
  N24-0984
–  Connect multimeter between contacts 2 and 3 to measure resistance.
t  Specification: 730...1000 Ω
  Note!
The resistance value of the engine speed sender relates to a temperature of 20 °C. The resistance increases if the temperature increases.
If specification is not attained:
–  Fit a new engine speed sender.
If specification is attained:
  A24-0089
–  Connect multimeter between contacts 2 and 1 (screening) and 3 and 1 (screening) to measure resistance.
t  Specification: ∞ Ω~(no continuity)
If specification is not attained:
–  Fit a new engine speed sender.
  Note!
The noise insulation must be removed in order to remove the engine speed sender.
If specification is attained:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.

–  Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

–  Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Renew engine control unit.
