Checking Hall sender > < Checking knock sensor wiring
Checking wiring from knock sensor to engine control unit
Checking wiring from knock sensor to engine control unit
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.
   
–  Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:
  A24-0096

–  Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Loosen the knock sensor then tighten it to 20 Nm.
–  Perform test drive.
  Caution
To avoid accident risks when road testing the vehicle with test equipment, always observe the relevant safety precautions .
The following operating conditions must be complied with during this test drive:
t  If the coolant temperature is greater than 80 °C, the following operating statuses must be attained several times: idling, part load, enrichment, full load, overrun
t  For full throttle the speed must be increased to over 3500 rpm.
–  Interrogate the fault memory of the engine control unit again.
If the problem is still present:
–  Replace the knock sensor-G61-.
