Test sequence
Test sequence
–  Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- or fault reader -V.A.G 1551- and select engine electronics control unit by entering “address word ” 01. For this purpose, the engine must be running at idling speed.
   
Indicated on display:
–  Enter “08” for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with the Q key.

Indicated on display:
–  Enter “050” for “Display group number 050” and confirm entry with the Q key.

Indicated on display: (1...4 = display zones)
–  Switch off air conditioner.
t  Specified value in display zone 4: Compr. OFF
–  Switch on air conditioner with “auto” button and set air conditioner to maximum cooling/heating. The compressor must run.
t  Specified value in display zone 4: Compr. ON
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Fully depress the accelerator pedal and release again (brief actuation).
t  Specification in display zone 4: Display switches for a few seconds from “Compr. ON” to “Compr. OFF” (compressor shutoff on vehicle acceleration)
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
  Note!
A test drive must be performed to check the shut-off function on vehicle with manual gearbox.
  Caution
To avoid accident risks when road testing the vehicle with test equipment, always observe the relevant safety precautions → Chapter.
–  Engage 1st gear and accelerate briskly. Release the accelerator pedal.
t  Specification in display zone 4: Display switches for a few seconds from “Compr. ON” to “Compr. OFF” (compressor shutoff on vehicle acceleration)
All models:
If the readout in display zone 4 is not as described:
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/31- to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

–  Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
–  If there are no faults in the wiring, check the operation of air conditioner. → Heating, Air Conditioner; Repair group 01; Self-diagnosis for air conditioner
