Notes:

• ◆ The starter signal (terminal 50, from ignition switch) goes to the same input on the engine control unit as the P/N signal.
• ◆ As soon as the engine control unit detects the starter signal the fuel pump relay is switched on.

• ‒ On vehicles with an automatic gearbox: unplug relay for starter inhibitor and reversing lights -J226.
• ‒ → Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for control unit.
• ‒ Connect multimeter V.A.G 1526 (voltage range) between sockets 2 (earth) and 22 (terminal 50).
• ‒ Operate starter. Multimeter should read
      at least. 8 V

If the specification is not attained:

• ‒ Test wiring to ignition switch (terminal 50) using current flow diagram.
