Testing throttle valve position

Notes:

  • ◆ In conjunction with the engine speed signal this signal enables the automatic gearbox control unit to calculate the gearshift intervals.
  • ◆ The signal is a square wave signal and is taken from contact 7 on the engine control unit.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 .
  • ‒ Start self-diagnosis on gearbox control unit.

=> Automatic gearbox 01M; Repair Group 01; Self-diagnosis

  • ‒ If the gearbox control unit displays fault 00638 "Engine/gearbox electrical connection 2", interrogate fault memory of engine control unit => Page 01-10.
  • ‒ If the engine control unit has recorded a fault relating to the throttle valve potentiometer, rectify this fault first. (In this case the fault in the gearbox is a result of the fault in the potentiometer.)

A28-0022
  • ‒ → If no fault relating to the throttle valve potentiometer is displayed, connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit => Page 24-8.
  • ‒ Test for short or open circuit in wiring between gearbox control unit and contact 7 on engine control unit connector.
