Testing intake manifold flap motor

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ V.A.G 1526 A
• ◆ V.A.G 1527 B
• ◆ V.A.G 1594 A
• ◆ V.A.G 1598/31

Test sequence

• ‒ Start final control diagnosis and activate intake manifold flap motor -V157=>Page 01-64.
• ‒ Opening and closing of intake manifold flap should be audible

If intake manifold flap does not function:

• ‒ → Unplug connector -arrow- from intake manifold flap motor.

Checking voltage supply

Test requirement:

• ● Fuses for engine electronics OK.

=> Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations binder

• ‒ → Connect multimeter (voltage measurement range) as follows:

• ‒ Switch on ignition.
• ‒ Specification: approx. battery voltage

If the specification is not attained:

• ‒ Test wiring for open circuits and rectify if necessary.

If the specification is obtained:

Testing earth supply

• ‒ → Connect multimeter (voltage measurement range) as follows:

• ‒ Specification: approx. battery voltage

If the specification is not attained:

• ‒ Test wiring for open circuits and rectify if necessary.

If the specification is obtained:

Checking activation

• ‒ → Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B between contacts 3 and 4.
• ‒ Start final control diagnosis and activate intake manifold flap motor -V157=>Page 01-64.
• ‒ The LED should flash.
• ‒ Press the ◂button to exit from function "03 - Final control diagnosis".
• ‒ Select diagnosis function "06 - End output".
• ‒ Switch off ignition.

If the LED flashes, but motor -V157 does not activate flap:

• ‒ Replace intake manifold flap motor -V157.

If the LED does not flash:

• ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit.Do notconnect to the engine control unit itself.
• ‒ Connecting test box to engine control unit without protective housing=>Page 23-49.

• ‒ Connecting test box to engine control unit with protective housing=>Page 23-51.

• ‒ → Test for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

• ‒ Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.

If no fault is found:

• ‒ Replace engine control unit
• ‒ Removing and installing engine control unit without protective housing=>Page 23-57.
• ‒ Removing and installing engine control unit with protective housing=>Page 23-60.
