Vehicles manufactured between approx. 01.97 and 02.98 are fitted with a clamping ring -arrow- in the steering column to prevent rattling noise.
An enhanced steering column was introduced as of roughly 02.98 and the clamping ring discontinued. Vehicles in the following ident. no. range are equipped as standard with a clamping ring:

Vehicles up to ident. no. 8L_VA 057 549 can be retrofitted in the event of rattling noise in the steering column with a split clamping ring, part no. 1J0 419 838 A.
