Removing

  • ‒ Remove driver's airbag unit.

=> General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair Group 69; Servicing driver's airbag

Attention:
  • ◆ Wheels must be in straight ahead position when removing steering wheel.
  • ◆ Steering wheel must be in centre position.
  • ◆ Coil connector with slip ring must not be turned out of centre position (secure in installation position using adhesive tape).

  • ‒ → Unscrew bolt and detach steering wheel.
  •     1 -    Hexagon bolt
  •     2 -    Multi-point socket head bolt

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

→ Steering wheel and steering column are marked.

  •     A -    Line on steering wheel
  •     B -    Centre punch mark on steering column

This position should not be altered.

Otherwise centre position of rack is not guaranteed.

Vehicles with ESP:

  • ‒ → Check whether yellow dot is visible in hole -arrow 1- and that the two marks -arrows- are aligned.

All models:

  • ‒ → Attach steering wheel and secure with new bolt.
  • ‒ Install driver's airbag unit.

=> General Body Repairs, Interior; Repair Group 69; Servicing driver's airbag

Vehicles with ESP:

  • ‒ Start basic setting for steering angle sender -G85.

=> Running Gear, Self-diagnosis; Repair Group 01

  • ‒ On vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, perform ESP drive test.

=> Running Gear, Self-diagnosis; Repair Group 01
