Removing
Mark brake pads when removing if they are to be reused. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.
–  Remove wheels.

–  Detach brake caliper housing; counter-hold at guide pin.
–  Tie up brake caliper housing with a piece of wire.
  Note
Brake hose/line must not be twisted or kinked.

–  Remove brake pads and pad retaining springs -arrows-.
  Note
Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Clean brake caliper housing; in particular the bonding surface for the brake pad must be free of any traces of adhesive and grease.
Use only methylated spirits to clean the brake caliper housing.
  Note
Before pressing the piston back, draw off brake fluid from the reservoir. To draw off fluid, use a bleeder bottle or plastic bottle kept specially for this purpose.
  WARNING
Brake fluid is poisonous and must NOT be drawn off by sucking through a hose.

–  Apply piston compressing tool -T 10165- on piston of brake caliper housing.
–  Screw in piston by turning knurled wheel of piston compressing tool -T 10165- clockwise, do not damage protective cap when doing so.
  Note
If piston will not move easily, a 13 mm open-ended spanner can be applied at the appropriate flats -arrow-.
  A46-0313
–  Insert brake pad retaining springs -arrows- and brake pads into brake carrier.
–  Pull protective foil off brake pad backplate.
–  Secure brake caliper housing with new self-locking bolts.
  Note
The repair kit includes four self-locking hexagon bolts which must be installed in all cases.
–  Fit wheels → Wheels and tyres; Rep. gr.44.
  WARNING
After installing the brake pads, depress pedal firmly several times with the vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
–  Check brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
