Checking CO2 content in exhaust gas of auxiliary heater > < Test requirements
Preparation
Preparation
–  Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- to 16-pin diagnostic socket in vehicle with diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/5A- → Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Switch ignition on and all electrical equipment off.
–  Select “Guided Fault Finding” function → Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  Note
The tester displays differ and are governed by the design and type of tester (e.g. vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A-, vehicle diagnostic and service information system -VAS 5052-), the software stored in the testers and the software version stored in the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-.
–  Read out fault memories of all systems with self-diagnosis capability; pay particular attention to the following vehicle systems → Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051:
–  Dash panel insert
–  Air conditioner/heater electronics
–  Additional/auxiliary heater
–  Data bus diagnostic interface -J533-
–  Eliminate the cause of any faults displayed in the vehicle systems and erase the fault memory → Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Select auxiliary heater control unit -J364- in “Guided Fault Finding” function → Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  Note
The Guided Fault Finding function for the auxiliary heater can only be started if the ignition is switched on (data bus diagnostic interface -J533- is only active when ignition is on). Once the auxiliary heater has switched to diagnostic mode, you can continue with the Guided Fault Finding even if the ignition switched off.
