Checking operation of air recirculation flap control motor -V113- and fresh-air/air recirculation control button
Vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner, air conditioning system control unit -J301-
  Note
t  As there is no potentiometer fitted in the air recirculation flap control motor -V113-, this control motor is only ever actuated in one direction (fresh-air or air recirculation mode). The direction of rotation of the control motor is reversed by interchanging positive and negative at the outputs of the air conditioning system control unit -J301-. The air conditioning system control unit -J301- recognises that the control motor has reached its end position by way of the level of current flowing through it.
t  As there is no potentiometer fitted in the air recirculation flap control motor -V113-, a fault at the control motor or in its wiring is not always detected by the air conditioning system control unit -J301-.

t  The fresh-air/air recirculation button -F- is integrated into the air conditioning system control unit -J301- (air conditioner control).
t  On vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner, the air recirculation flap control motor -V113- is actuated for example by way of the „Basic setting“ function. The potentiometer for air recirculation flap control motor -G143- integrated into this motor with the automatic air conditioner version is used by the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- to monitor operation of the control motor → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  With the air conditioner switched off, the windows may mist up in air recirculation mode (the humidity of the air in the passenger compartment increases and condensation forms on the windows; the cold air conditioner evaporator does not dry the air).
t  With the majority of country codes, the „air recirculation“ function is automatically cancelled approx. 20 minutes after switching the ignition on again (it only remains permanently stored with the code for Japan). If the windows mist up after switching the ignition back on, air recirculation mode is to be deactivated manually.
t  If the rotary air distribution control -B- is set to the position „Air to windscreen“-D- and air recirculation mode is activated in this rotary control setting by pressing the fresh air/air recirculation button -F-, deactivate this mode by pressing the fresh air/air recirculation button -F- to clear misted windows as quickly as possible. The air conditioning system control unit -J301- switches automatically for example to fresh-air mode after the rotary control has been moved to this position (and the LED in the button -F- goes out).
t  For checking operation of the fresh-air/air recirculation mode button -F- and actuation of the air recirculation flap control motor -V113-, refer to → Chapter.
t  Checking operation of air recirculation flap control motor -V113- → Chapter.
t  Checking operation of electronics in air conditioning system control unit -J301- and air recirculation flap control motor -V113- → Chapter.
