  Note
t  On vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- evaluates the signals from the various components and actuates the air conditioner compressor by way of the air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280-.
t  On vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner, the air conditioning system control unit -J301- evaluates the signals from the various components and actuates the air conditioner compressor by way of -N280-.
t  In the event of a system fault, start by reading out the event recorder of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- or the air conditioning system control unit -J301- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  If no fault is displayed, read out the measured value block of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- or the air conditioning system control unit -J301- and actuate any problematic component by way of the „Final control diagnosis“ function → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  Refrigerant circuit servicing work is described as of → Chapter.
t  Perform the following operations on completion of repair work:
–  Interrogate the event recorder of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- or the air conditioning system control unit -J301- and erase any faults displayed.
–  Check the encoding of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  If necessary, check the adaption of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  Perform air conditioner basic setting → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  Electrical checking of the various control motors, potentiometers and senders is described in the guided fault-finding routine → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
