Removing and installing intake housing with air recirculation and air-flow/fresh-air flap
Removing and installing intake housing with air recirculation and air-flow/fresh-air flap
  Note
t  The intake housing is of different design for vehicles with manually and automatically controlled air conditioner. There are also different versions of the intake housing for vehicles with automatically controlled air conditioner (with and without mount for the fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- with one or two control motors for actuation of the air recirculation flap and the air flow flap / fresh-air flap) → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  Up to the end of Model Year 2007, the air flow flap (fresh-air flap) was moved by the air flow flap control motor -V71-. The air flow flap control motor -V71- is being gradually discontinued as of the end of Model Year 2007. On vehicles with no air flow flap control motor -V71-, the air flow flap is actuated by way of a cam plate and lever by the air recirculation flap control motor -V113- → Chapter. Attention is therefore to be paid to correct assignment of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. If the assignment or adaption is not OK, this is detected during basic setting and stored as a fault → Electronic parts catalogue.
Removing
–  Remove the dash panel complete with the dash panel cross-member → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
–  Remove the air conditioning unit → Chapter.

–  Unplug the connector -A-.
–  Mark the wiring to the connector -B- (to air flow flap control motor -V71-) and unplug the connector (danger of interchange as connectors -B- and -C- are identical).
–  Mark the wiring to the connector -C- (to air recirculation flap control motor -V113-) and unplug the connector.
  A87-0697
–  Remove the bolts -D-.
–  Detach the intake housing from the air conditioning unit.
  Note
t  Different versions for vehicles with and without fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- → Electronic parts catalogue
t  As of Model Year 2006, the fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- is being gradually discontinued. Vehicles with no such temperature sensor are only to be fitted with operating and display units, Climatronic control unit -J255- with part number as of index „M“.
t  An entry is made in the event recorder if vehicles with no fresh air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- are fitted with an operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- with part number up to index „L“.
Installing
Re-install all parts removed in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
  A87-0697
–  On attaching the intake housing, make sure the attachment points -F- and -G- are correctly positioned.
–  Route the wiring harness such that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. control motor levers).
