Checking operation of fresh air and air recirculation flap control motorV154 and fresh air/air recirculation button > < Removing and installing fresh air blowerV2
Removing and installing fresh air and air recirculation flap control motorV154 (air recirculation flap control motorV113)
Removing and installing fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- (air recirculation flap control motor -V113-)
Fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- on vehicles with no air conditioner
Air recirculation flap control motor -V113- on vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner
  Note
t  The control motor has a different designation in the guided fault-finding routine and current flow diagram for the heater and manually controlled air conditioner. The removal and installation procedures are however identical.
t  Check operation of the fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- and of the heater control unit -J65- → Chapter (on vehicle with no air conditioner).
t  Check operation of the air recirculation flap control motor -V113- and the air conditioning system control unit -J301- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  After installing a new control motor (for the heater), check actuation by the heater control unit -J65- → Chapter as well as operation of the fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- (correct position for air recirculation and fresh air mode).
t  After installing a new control motor for the manually controlled air conditioner, check actuation by the air conditioning system control unit -J301- as well as operation of the air recirculation flap control motor -V113- (correct position for air recirculation and fresh air mode).
t  The fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- (air recirculation flap control motor -V113-) can only be readily removed in the „fresh air mode stop“ position and can only be installed in this position. If the control motor comes to a halt in a different position and it can no longer be moved electrically into the „fresh air mode stop“ position, it is difficult to detach and thus remove.
t  There are different versions of the control motor for vehicles with no air conditioner (heater only), with manually controlled air conditioner and with automatically controlled air conditioner (with limit switches or potentiometer). → Electronic parts catalogue
Removing
–  Switch on the ignition if necessary and wait until the control motor has reached its „fresh air mode“ end position.
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove the glove compartment: → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68

–  Release the catches -B- and -C- for the holder -A- at the intake housing and detach the holder -A-.
  A80-0253
–  Detach the control motor -B- (in arrow direction) from the intake housing.
  Note
t  The connection between the gear wheels of the control motor and the air flow flap is designed such that the control motor can only be readily detached in the „fresh air mode“ position (the intake opening for air recirculation mode via the fresh-air/air recirculation flap -A- is sealed off).
t  If the control motor is in a different position and can no longer be moved, it is not possible to simply detach the control motor, but rather it must first be forced out of the mounting points -C-. Take care not to damage the gear wheel -D- when doing so.
Installing
  Note
  A80-0252
Replacement control motors are supplied in „fresh air mode“ position. The motor can only be attached to the gear wheel of the fresh-air/air recirculation flap when the gear wheel -A- is on the stop -B-. Control motors which have been removed in a different position or actuated following removal cannot be installed. If the gear wheel -A- of the control motor is not on the stop -B- („fresh-air mode“), move it to the position required for installation.
Setting gear wheel at control motor to „Fresh-air mode“ position
–  Connect the removed control motor to the vehicle wiring harness (by way of the connector provided).
–  Switch on the ignition (the heater control unit -J65- / air conditioning system control unit -J301- actuates the control motor such that it moves into the „fresh air mode stop“ position).
–  Wait until the gear wheel -A- of the control motor has reached the stop -B- („fresh air mode“).
–  Switch off ignition.
Installing control motor
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Connect the control motor to the vehicle wiring harness by way of the connector provided.
  A87-0694
–  Reach into the intake opening for air recirculationr mode and move the fresh-air/air recirculation flap -A- to the „fresh-air mode“ position (intake opening for air recirculation mode closed).
–  Insert the control motor -B- in the direction opposite to the arrow in the mounts -C- and position it on the gear wheel -D-.
  A80-0252
–  To enable the gear wheel at the control motor -A- to be attached to the gear wheel of the fresh-air/air recirculation flap, the short tooth -C- of the gear wheel at the control motor must coincide with the short tooth gap -D- of the gear wheel at the shaft of the fresh-air/air recirculation flap -D-.
–  Route the wiring harness such that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. control motor lever).
  A87-0695
–  Install the holder -A-, taking particular care to ensure that the guide of the holder -D- is properly inserted in the mount of the intake housing -E- and that the holder is correctly engaged in both catches -B- and -C-.
–  Check the control motor. It must be held in position by the holder -A-. Eliminate any clearance if necessary by attaching a piece of foam to the inside of the attachment points -F- of the holder -A-.
  Note
t  With the glove compartment fitted, the position of the control motor (and the flap) is no longer visible. It is therefore appropriate to check its operation before installing the glove compartment → Chapter (vehicles with no air conditioner) or → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner).
t  If the two gear wheels have been assembled in the wrong position, the fresh-air/air recirculation flap will not reach its two end positions or the control motor will not run smoothly.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Check operation of the fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- (air recirculation flap control motor -V113-) and actuation by way of the heater control unit -J65- → Chapter (vehicles with no air conditioner) or the air conditioning system control unit -J301- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner).
  A80-0253
–  Actuate the control motor in each case until the gear wheel -D- is on the „fresh air mode“ stop or the „air recirculation mode“ stop and then check the position of the fresh-air/air recirculation flap -A-. It must be open (air recirculation mode) or closed (fresh air mode).
Re-install all components removed in reverse order.
