Requirements for adjustment
l  Gear selector linkage must be in proper condition and undamaged.
l  Selector mechanism must move freely.
l  Gearbox, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper condition.
l  Gearbox in neutral.

Adjusting
–  Open ashtray (if fitted).
–  Carefully pry gear lever boot off centre console -arrows-.
–  Pull boot up and over gear knob.
–  With gearbox in neutral, guide gear lever to the left into 1st/2nd gear gate.

–  Pull noise insulation slightly to one side.
–  Then guide locking pin -T10027 A- through hole -A- and into hole -B-.

The noise insulation panels are removed to give a better illustration.

Release cable end-pieces for gate selector cable and gear selector cable as follows:
–  Pull locking sleeve forwards as far as stop -arrow 1-.
–  Turn locking sleeve anti-clockwise as far as stop -arrow 2- so that it engages.
  Note
It should now be possible to move the cables in the cable end-pieces.

Lock the selector shaft as follows:
–  Push gearbox selector lever down into 1st/2nd gear gate in direction of -arrow 1-.
–  At the same time, turn locking pin -A- in direction of -arrow 2- and press it in carefully until it engages.
The selector shaft is then locked and can no longer be moved.

–  Check that gate selector cable and gear selector cable -B- are located in cable end-pieces -A- without tension.
–  Release locking sleeve -arrow 1-.
–  Allow locking sleeve to slide onto stop -arrow 2-.
  Note
Cable adjustment is now complete.

–  Now turn locking pin -A- back to original position (direction of -arrow-).
l  The angled rod should point vertically upwards.
–  Pull locking pin -T10027 A- out of selector mechanism.
Check gear lever setting as follows:
l  With the gearbox in neutral, the gear lever should rest in the 3rd/4th gear gate.
–  Depress clutch.
–  Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear locking mechanism.
l  The gear lever should return by itself from the reverse gear gate to the 3rd / 4th gear gate.
If the gear lever sticks or baulks repeatedly when engaging a gear, perform the adjustment procedure again.
–  Fit gear lever boot.
