Removing
  Note
t  → Chapter „Repair instructions“.
t  → Chapter „Rules for cleanliness when working on the gearbox“.
   
–  Remove front left wheel.
–  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
  Note
Depending on version, different types of noise insulation may be fitted.

–  Remove front section of front wheel housing liner (left-side) → Rep. gr.66.
  Note
Depending on version, different types of wheel housing liner may be fitted.
–  Unbolt drive shaft (left-side) from flange shaft on gearbox and tie up to body.

–  Remove bolt -arrow- securing flange shaft (left-side). To do so, screw two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft with suitable lever.
–  Pull out flange shaft together with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.
Installing
l  Tightening torque → Chapter „Exploded view - flange shafts and oil seals“
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Push flange shaft in against spring pressure and secure with bolt.
–  Install drive shaft (left-side) → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.40.
–  Renew gear oil → Chapter.
  Note
The gear oil must be renewed; the correct gear oil level cannot be achieved otherwise.
