t  Drip tray -V.A.G 1306-
t  Safety goggles
  Note!
t  Rules for cleanliness when working on the automatic gearbox → Chapter.
t  General repair instructions → Chapter.

Remove oil pan
–  Remove centre noise insulation -fasteners 1 ... 3-.
–  Place drip tray -V.A.G 1306- under the gearbox.
  Caution
Wear safety goggles.

–  Remove ATF drain plug -B- and allow ATF to drain off.
–  Remove ATF inspection plug -A-.

–  Unscrew overflow pipe -C- (hexagon key, 5 mm) and allow remaining ATF to drain.

–  Loosen the 8 bolts on oil pan -arrows- in diagonal sequence.
  Caution
There is still some ATF left in oil pan, as it cannot all drain off through opening -A-.
–  Remove oil pan together with oil pan gasket.
Installing oil pan
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Clean the two magnets → Item in recesses on oil pan. Ensure that magnets make full contact with oil pan.
  Note!
It is essential that magnets are fitted at specified points in oil pan.
–  Clean gasket and sealing surfaces and remove any oil residue.
–  Make sure gasket for oil pan is fitted correctly.
–  When fitting oil pan, take care not to trap any wires.
–  Secure the 8 bolts on oil pan -arrows- in diagonal sequence.
  A38-0100
–  Renew the seal on the ATF drain plug.
–  Install ATF drain plug -B-.
  A37-0613
–  Install overflow pipe -C- using hexagon key (5 mm).
–  Fill up with ATF; check ATF level and top up → Chapter.
l  The seal -B- on ATF inspection plug must be renewed after checking ATF.

1)  Tighten diagonally in stages.
