Removing and installing flange shaft (right-side)

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

Removing

Note

t	→ Chapter „Repair instructions“.

t	→ Chapter „Rules for cleanliness when working on the gearbox“.

–	Remove front right wheel.

–	Remove noise insulation -1- → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.50.

Note

Depending on version, different types of noise insulation may be fitted.

–	Unplug electrical connector -1- at oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-.

–	Unclip bracket -2- for electrical wiring leading to oil level and oil temperature sender -G266- at subframe.

–	Remove heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) -arrows-.

–	Unbolt drive shaft (right-side) from gearbox flange.

–	Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.

–	Remove right flange shaft securing bolt; to do so, screw two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft with tyre iron or other suitable lever.

–	Pull out flange shaft together with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.

Installing

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:

l	Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view - flange shafts, oil seals“

–	Push flange shaft against spring pressure and secure using new bolt.

–	Install drive shaft (right-side) → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. Gr.40.
