Engine oil > < Removing and installing oil cooler

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14-
t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-

Test conditions
l  Oil level OK
l  Engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C
   
Test sequence
–  Unplug electrical connector at oil pressure switch -F1--arrow-.
–  Unscrew oil pressure switch.
  A17-10010
–  Connect oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- to threaded hole for oil pressure switch.
–  Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-.
–  Connect brown wire -1- of oil pressure tester to earth (–).
Checking oil pressure switch
–  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- with test leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to oil pressure switch and battery positive (+).
l  LED should not light up.
If the LED lights up:
–  Renew oil pressure switch.
–  Start engine.
  Note
Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting.
l  Test lamp should light up at 0.3 ... 0.7 bar.
If LED does not light up:
–  Renew oil pressure switch.
Checking oil pressure
–  Start engine.
l  Minimum oil pressure at 2000 rpm: 2.0 bar
l  Maximum oil pressure at higher engine speeds: 7.0 bar
The pressure relief valve or oil pump is defective if the specifications are not attained.
–  Renew oil pump → Chapter.
Assembling
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
