Removing and installing sealing flange (gearbox end) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Fitting tool -T10122- t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Safety goggles t  Sealant → Electronic parts catalogue

Removing l  Gearbox removed. –  Remove flywheel → Chapter. –  Disengage intermediate plate on sealing flange -arrow A- and pull intermediate plate off dowel sleeves -arrows B-.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 8-. –  Lever off sealing flange (gearbox end) and remove. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note Place a cloth over the exposed section of the sump. –  Carefully remove sealant residues from sump and bottom of sealing flange. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.   Note

Note the use-by date of the sealant. –  Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (diameter of nozzle approx. 3 mm).

–  Apply a thin bead of sealant at the edge of the joint between the cylinder block and the sump -arrows-.

–  Coat the lower sealing surface on the sealing flange lightly with sealant -hatched area-.   Note The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant.

–  Attach fitting sleeve -T10122/1- to guide sleeve -T10122/2-. –  Slide sealing flange -A- over fitting sleeve and onto guide sleeve.

–  Detach fitting sleeve -T10122/1-, position guide sleeve -T10122/2- on crankshaft journal and push sealing flange onto cylinder block.

–  Tighten bolts in the specified sequence: –  First tighten bolts -1 ... 6-. –  Then tighten bolts -7- and -8-.

–  Engage intermediate plate on sealing flange -arrow A- and push onto dowel sleeves -arrows B-. –  Install flywheel → Chapter. Tightening torque
