Removing
l  Engine in vehicle.
–  Remove toothed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove crankshaft sprocket; use counterhold tool -3415- to lock crankshaft sprocket in place.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 10-.
–  Release sealing flange (pulley end) from bonded joint.
–  Drive out oil seal with sealing flange removed.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Place a cloth over the exposed section of the sump.
–  Carefully remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block and sump.

  WARNING
Wear safety goggles.
–  Remove sealant residue from sealing flange using a rotating plastic brush or similar.
–  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
  Note
  A17-0030
Note the use-by date of the sealant.
–  Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (diameter of nozzle approx. 3 mm).
  Note
t  The sealant must be applied at several points on the engine as described below.
t  The sealant hardens within approx. 5 minutes after being applied.

–  Apply a thin bead of sealant at the edge of the joint between the cylinder block and the sump -arrows-.

–  Apply the bead of sealant onto the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange as illustrated -arrow-.
l  Width of sealant bead -arrow-: 2 ... 3 mm.
  Note
Sealant bead must not be wider than 3 mm, otherwise excess sealant could ingress into sump and clog strainer in oil intake pipe.
  A17-0028
–  Coat the lower sealing surface on the sealing flange lightly with sealant -hatched area-.
–  Push the sealing flange carefully onto the dowel pins on the cylinder block.
  A13-0519
–  Tighten bolts in the specified sequence:
1.  Tighten bolts -1 ... 6-.
2.  Tighten bolts -7 ... 10-.
–  Install crankshaft oil seal (pulley end) → Anchor.
–  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor.
