| When working on the fuel system note the following warnings: |
WARNING | The fuel can become extremely hot. This can cause injuries. |

| In extreme cases the fuel lines and the fuel can reach a temperature of 100 °C on vehicles with unit injector engine. Allow the fuel to cool down before disconnecting the lines - danger of scalding. |
| t
| Wear protective gloves. |

| Observe the following points to prevent personal injuries and damage to the injection and glow plug system: |
| t
| Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting tester cables or electrical wiring for the injection or glow plug system. |
| t
| Always switch off ignition before washing engine. |
| t
| Faults are stored in engine control unit if electrical connectors have been unplugged: |
| –
| Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B-. |
| –
| Start “Self-diagnosis” mode. |
| –
| Interrogate and erase fault memory of engine control unit. |
Caution | To prevent damage to the electronic components when disconnecting the battery: |
| t
| Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery. |
| t
| Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting the battery. |

| When working on the cooling system note the following warnings: |
WARNING | Hot steam/hot coolant can escape - risk of scalding. |
| t
| The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot. |
| t
| To allow pressure to dissipate, cover filler cap on expansion tank with cloth and open carefully. |
|
| Note the following if testers and measuring instruments have to be used during a road test: |
WARNING | Persons sitting in the front passenger's seat could be seriously injured if the airbag is triggered. |
| t
| Test equipment must always be secured on the rear seat and operated from that position by a second person. |
| t
| If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger's seat and the vehicle is involved in an accident, the person sitting in this seat could be seriously injured when the airbag is triggered. |
