Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-

t	Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B-

t	Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-

Procedure l  Oil level OK l  Engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C Engine cover panel (version 1): –  Pull dipstick -1- out of guide tube. –  Lift engine cover panel at sides -arrows 2- and pull off towards front -arrow 3-. –  Re-insert dipstick in guide tube.

Engine cover panel (version 2): –  Lift off engine cover panel (outside -1- and inside -2-) by pulling up evenly.

All vehicles (continued): –  Pull cover off air duct (release clips on sides) -arrows-.

–  Unclip air duct at the bottom by releasing clips -arrows-.

–  Detach air duct (bottom) together with air hose. –  Remove air intake hose -arrow- from between lock carrier and air cleaner housing.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Unscrew oil pressure switch.

–  Connect oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- to threaded hole for oil pressure switch. –  Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-. Checking oil pressure switch –  Connect brown wire -1- of oil pressure tester to earth (–). –  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- with test leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to oil pressure switch and battery positive (+). l  LED should not light up. If the LED lights up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. –  Start engine.   Note Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting. l  LED should light up at 0.55 ... 0.85 bar. If LED does not light up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. Checking oil pressure –  Start engine (engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C). l  Minimum oil pressure at idling speed: 0.8 bar l  Minimum oil pressure at 2000 rpm: 2.0 bar.
