  Caution
Running when dry causes irreparable damage to high-pressure pump.
If the fuel filter, the fuel lines or the supplementary fuel pump -V393- are renewed on vehicles with common rail engine, it is important to bleed the fuel system before the engine is started for the first time.
–  Bleed fuel system → Rep. gr.23.

Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Electronic parts catalogue.

q   Check that it is securely seated

2 - Bolt

Fuel filter (top section), version A
1 - 8 Nm
2 - 4 Nm - screw plug for fluid extraction (not always fitted; unscrew and extract approx. 100 cm3 of fluid using diesel extractor -VAS 5226-; renew seal)
3 - Supply line from fuel tank (white or with white marking). Check for secure seating.
4 - Return line to fuel tank (blue or with blue marking). Check for secure seating.
5 - Supply line to engine (white or with white marking). Check for secure seating.
6 - Return line from engine (blue or with blue marking). Check for secure seating.

1 - 5 Nm
2 - Return line to fuel tank (blue or with blue marking). Check for secure seating.
3 - Supply line from fuel tank (white or with white marking). Check for secure seating.

5 - Supply line to engine (white or with white marking). Check for secure seating.
