Removing and installing wishbone with mounting bracket (left-side) on vehicles with dual clutch gearbox or automatic gearbox
Removing and installing wishbone with mounting bracket (left-side) on vehicles with dual clutch gearbox or automatic gearbox
The procedure for removing the right wishbone on vehicles with dual clutch and automatic gearbox is the same as described for vehicles with manual gearbox → Chapter.
Removing left wishbone
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-
–  Remove front left wheel.
–  Remove noise insulation (bottom) → Rep. gr.50.
–  If fitted, remove frame for noise insulation → Rep. gr.50.
–  If fitted, remove diagonal struts → Chapter.
–  Remove bracket for exhaust system from subframe.
  W00-0120
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- from heat shield.
–  Remove heat shield from subframe.

–  Unscrew bolts -14- and remove pendulum support from gearbox.
–  Detach coupling rod of front left vehicle level sender -G78- from wishbone (if fitted).
–  Fix suspension bracket and mounting bracket for wishbone on left side of vehicle in position with locating pins -T10096- → Chapter.

–  Unscrew nuts -arrows-.
  N40-10005
–  Loosen bolt -17-.
–  Now unscrew bolts for:
t  Steering box -3 and 6-
t  Anti-roll bar -11 and 16-.

–  Place engine and gearbox jack-V.A.G 1383 A- under subframe.
–  Place a block of wood or similar -1- between engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- and subframe.

–  Unscrew bolts -2, 4, 5 and 12-, and lower subframe with suspension brackets as far as necessary.
–  At the same time, lever dowel sleeves of steering box out of left suspension bracket.
–  Unscrew bolt -17- and remove wishbone from suspension bracket.
Installing left wishbone
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:

Ensure proper seating of dowel sleeves for steering box in suspension bracket.
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of subframe, diagonal strut, swivel joint, anti-roll bar, wishbone, suspension bracket and vehicle level senders“
  Note
Ensure sealing boot is not damaged or twisted.
–  Perform road test after carrying out repairs. Wheel alignment must be checked and adjusted if steering wheel is not in central position → Chapter.
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of subframe, diagonal strut, swivel joint, anti-roll bar, wishbone, suspension bracket and vehicle level senders“
Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view of wheel bearing housing and wheel bearing unit“
–  On vehicles with electronic damping control (Audi magnetic ride), re-adapt reference position → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
–  Perform basic setting of headlights → Rep. gr.94.
–  Check and adjust wheel alignment as required, see chart → Anchor.
