Specified value: (Partial air recirculation mode)

NOTE:  In order to avoid frequent shifting of the fresh/recirculating air flaps, the requirement of the Air Quality Sensor G238 sensor for
"Automatic air recirculation" mode remains for at least 25 seconds (minimum duration period), even if the pollutant concentration is so far
reduced that recirculated air mode is no longer necessary.

-

Operate switch for wiper/washer system until Windshield Washer Pump V5 has delivered fluid for approx. 2 seconds.

-

Read indication in display field "4".
-

Specified value: (Requirement for "recirculating air mode" due to washer/wiper system, A/C switches for approx. 10 seconds to the air
recirculating mode)

-

Wait a short period time.

-

Read indication in display field "4".
-

Specified value: (no request for "Recirculating air mode" present, air conditioning in fresh air mode)
or

-

Specified value: (Partial air recirculation mode)

NOTE:
-

Depending on the composition of the windshield washer fluid, the Air Quality Sensor G238 can determine impurities in the air and request for
"Automatic air recirculation".

-

If no change over to recirculating air mode occurs when operating switch for windshield wiper/washer system, check function (the information
"wash windshield" is received by Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module J527 via CAN-Bus Comfort system),(read measuring
value block display group "019" ) and Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function .

If the function of Air Quality Sensor G238 is OK for this test and there is a customer complaint continue as follows:

Check dust and pollen filter for dirt.

-

Connect fault read-out device and select the "Read measuring value block" function and Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS
5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function .  See: Heating and Air Conditioning/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and
Procedures/Measuring Value Blocks (Function 08)/A/C System, Initiating Read Measuring Value Block Function

A second technician is required because the indicated values must be read out in the vehicle interior.

Observe safety precautions.

Enter display group number "014" and Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.  See:

Initiating Read Measuring Value Block Function

Drive vehicle to area with relatively clean ambient air (system operates in fresh air mode).

-

Now drive vehicle into an area with heavily polluted ambient air (e.g. on a street construction or truck traffic).

-

Read indications shown in display fields "3" and "4". Indication in display fields "3" and "4" must change e.g. when driving through a diesel
exhaust cloud.

-
