Removing

–  Detach dash panel end trim -6- → Chapter.
–  Unscrew bolts -2- (3x).
Vehicles with knee airbag
  WARNING
Observe safety regulations for working on airbags → Chapter.
–  Disconnect battery → Rep. gr.27.
  WARNING
Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
   
–  Pull catch -1- in direction of arrow and unplug knee airbag connector (yellow) -2- from airbag unit -3-.
–  Unplug earth connector -4-.
All vehicles
–  Pull off storage compartment at top of dash panel to rear and detach.
–  Unclip diagnostic socket.

–  Unplug electrical connector at footwell light and, if applicable, at additional loudspeaker -2-.
Installing
Installation is performed accordingly in the reverse sequence. Observe the following:
–  First engage storage compartment (driver side) in guides on bottom edge, then clip onto dash panel at top.
Vehicles with knee airbag
  WARNING
Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
–  Make sure connector for knee airbag engages audibly with coupling.
–  Switch on ignition with battery disconnected.
  WARNING
Make sure nobody is in the vehicle when the battery is being connected.
–  Connect battery → Rep. gr.27.
Tightening torques → Chapter
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, use the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A- to interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory.
