Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-

t  Seat repair stand -VAS 6136-
Removing
  WARNING
t  Observe the safety regulations for working on airbags → Chapter.
t  Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
–  Remove front seat → Chapter.
–  Attach front seat to seat repair stand -VAS 6136-.
–  Remove front seat backrest → Chapter.
–  Detach cover with padding from seat pan → Chapter.

–  Unscrew bolts -1-.
–  Unscrew bolts -2-.
–  Detach upper seat pan frame -3- from seat rails (lower seat pan frame) -4-.
Installing
  A72-10596
–  Mount upper seat pan frame -3- on seat rails (lower seat pan frame) -4-.
–  Insert seat cover and padding removed earlier in new seat pan → Chapter.
Perform remaining installation in reverse order of removal. Observe the following:
  WARNING
t  Observe the safety regulations for working on airbags → Chapter.
t  Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
  Note
Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect battery earth wire with ignition switched on → Rep. gr.27.
–  If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following the installation, the event memory must be interrogated, erased and interrogated again → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systemVAS 5051B.
