Fault table
  Note
t  Listed in the following in ascending order of fault codes are all faults which are detected by the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- and displayed on the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- on interrogating the content of the fault memory.
t  The content of the fault memory is retained until the memory is erased → Chapter.
t  Sporadic faults are marked “/ SP” on the display.
t  In the case of sporadic faults, always pay particular attention to the possibility of loose contacts in the connectors.
t  If defective components are displayed on reading out the fault memory, use the current flow diagram to additionally check for short circuit and open circuit in the wiring to the components. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  Check the appropriate plug contacts before replacing a component.
t  Before replacing the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, additionally check the power supply and earth connections. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  If the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- remains in operation after switching off the ignition and with auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation deactivated, check for short to positive in the wiring of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- (connector “D”, contact “10”).
t  With the Audi Cabrio, different settings are stored for closed and open convertible top in the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. On opening and closing the convertible top, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- then automatically alters the setting to the value last set with convertible top closed or open.
t  Always perform basic setting (function “04”) after replacing an air conditioner component. Then read out the fault memory, eliminate any faults displayed and erase the fault memory (functions “02” and “05”).
t  The display of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- is switched from °C (centigrade) to °F (Fahrenheit) and vice versa by pressing the “Temperature + left” button with the “recirculated-air button” pressed → Chapter.
t  Checking cooling output of air conditioner → Chapter
t  If the compressor output has been reducd 30 times during a driving cycle on account of incorrect pressure in the refrigerant circuit, e.g. due to a loose contact (in the wiring to the high-pressure sender -G65-), the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- is no longer actuated and the compressor is thus shut off. The compressor can be re-activated by pressing the “Auto” button or by switching the ignition off and on again.
t  If a fault is detected at the potentiometer in one of the air distribution control motors, the air distribution can be influenced by pressing the buttons on the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
t  If temperature regulation is found not to be working properly but no fault is displayed:
t  Check proper installation of temperature sensors (senders).
t  Check for interchanged wiring to the sunlight penetration photosensor -G107- and for correct version of sunlight penetration photosensor -G107-, different versions on vehicles up to and as of chassis number “400000” in Model Year 2005 (Saloon and Avant) and “012913” in Model Year 2005 (Cabrio) → Parts catalogue.
t  Check operation of temperature sensor blower -V42- (fitted in operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-).
t  Check actuation of the two temperature flaps by way of the corresponding control motor.
t  A message is no longer displayed for certain types of fault if the fault memory is interrogated using the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- (fault message is no longer incorporated into program card for these fault readers).
t  On vehicles with 8-cyl. engine, the compressor is not driven via a belt, but rather by way of a shaft → Chapter.
