Measured values of the following senders (evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263-, fresh-air intake duct temperature sensor -G89-) and temperature values transmitted by the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- (ambient temperature calculated and ambient temperature measured by ambient temperature sensor -G17-)

Display zoneSignificanceExplanatory notes
1Measured value of evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263- in ° C
l  Checking → Chapter

t  Depending on the setting at the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, the temperature at the evaporator is regulated to the following values:
–  In normal control mode between 2 °C and 10 °C
–  At temperatures less than 13 °C at least 3 °C below the ambient temperature determined but not less than 2 °C
–  At temperatures less than 16 °C and with rainfall (windscreen wipers switched on) at least 6 °C below the ambient temperature determined but not less than 2 °C.
–  2 °C with “Lo” temperature setting at operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-
  Note
t  If a temperature below 2 °C is measured for a lengthy period by the evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263-, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- switches off the compressor.
t  The value measured by the evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263- is used to control the evaporator temperature. The evaporator temperature is altered by actuating the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- (display group “001”) → Chapter.
t  - At least 5 °C, however not less than 2 °C with “recirculated-air mode” set at operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
t  At higher ambient temperatures, the specified temperatures are not always attained at the evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263- (despite the compressor operating at maximum output).
t  Actuation of the air conditioning system compressor regulating valve -N280- to control the compressor output is displayed in zones “1” and “2” of display group “001” → Chapter.
t  If the evaporator outflow temperature sender -G263- has not been properly installed or if it supplies an excessively high temperature value, the evaporator may ice up (the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- assumes from the measured value that the required evaporator temperature has not been attained).

2Measured value of
fresh-air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- in ° C
l  Checking → Chapter
3Calculated ambient temperature in ° C transmitted by control unit in dash panel insert -J285-
l  Data are exchanged by way of the convenience data bus system.
l  The control unit in dash panel insert -J285- calculates the current ambient temperature on the basis of the incoming temperature measured values (ambient temperature sensor -G17-, fresh-air intake duct temperature sensor -G89-), the vehicle speed and standing time etc.
4Measured value transmitted by control unit in dash panel insert -J285- of ambient temperature sensor -G17- in ° C
l  Data are exchanged by way of the convenience data bus system.
l  The ambient temperature sensor -G17- is connected to the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-

  Note
t  Checking measured value of ambient temperature sensor -G17- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.01
t  When the vehicle is stationary, for example, the measured values of the ambient temperature sensor -G17- and the fresh-air intake duct temperature sensor -G89- are impaired by the heat given off by the radiator or exhaust system etc. For this reason a program is stored in the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- which suppresses a higher measured temperature in the event of a traffic jam following a lengthy period of operation or in urban traffic for instance. The cooler arithmetic value is then displayed instead of the measured value in the ambient temperature indicator.
t  The display in zone “3 ” is based on the lower of the two measured ambient temperatures (display zone “2” and display zone “4”). After switching off the ignition, the value remains stored for up to 4 hours and the current measured values are not displayed.
