Signal from auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver R64 > < Test step "2”
Test step “3”
Test step “3”
Actuation of auxiliary heater by auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64-
  Note
t  Auxiliary heater remote control is not provided at present for all vehicles fitted with an auxiliary heater (optional extra).
t  This test step need not be performed for vehicles with no auxiliary heater remote control.
t  Contact “1” in connector -A- may also be assigned on vehicles with no auxiliary heater remote control. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  The illustrations showing the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- signals ( → Chapter) illustrate the remote control hand transmitter signal for an ON or OFF pulse.
t  After pressing the ON button, the warning lamp in the remote control hand transmitter continues to flash for roughly 30 seconds as a check (fast 3 times at first, then slowly). The warning lamp flashes 3 times after pressing the OFF button. If one of the remote control buttons is pressed for a lengthy period, the remote control warning lamp also goes out on completion of the time or number of flashing pulses (press button again if necessary).
t  The auxiliary heater remote control signal contains the identifier for this remote control. The auxiliary heater control unit -J364- can only detect and implement the remote control on/off signal if this has been matched via the adaption function in the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- (by way of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-) → Chapter.
t  Reception of a signal by the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver is displayed in the measured value block of the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- (display group “007”) → Chapter.

3.3 Function of buttons on remote control hand transmitter
–  Briefly press ON button on remote control → Chapter
–  Wait until warning lamp in remote control stops flashing
–  Warning lamp in remote control starts to flash (fast 3 times and then slowly for 30 seconds) → Chapter.
–  Check and if necessary replace remote control batteries → Chapter
–  Replace remote control

–  Briefly press OFF button on remote control → Chapter
–  Warning lamp in remote control flashes 3 times.
–  Check and if necessary replace remote control batteries → Chapter
–  Replace remote control

  Note
t  After pressing the ON button, the warning lamp in the remote control hand transmitter continues to flash for roughly 30 seconds as a check.
t  After pressing the ON or OFF button, the remote control only transmits the signal for activating or deactivating auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation once. The ON or OFF signal can only be transmitted again once the warning lamp has stopped flashing.

3.4
–  Switch off still display on vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-
–  Briefly press OFF button on remote control (warning lamp flashes 3 times).
–  Deactivation signal is displayed on oscilloscope immediately after pressing OFF button → Chapter
–  Use current flow diagram to check wiring between auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- for short to positive and repair if necessary.
–  Replace auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64-

  Note
t  Pay attention to correct setting to ensure that signal is displayed on oscilloscope (operating mode “Auto”, voltage “DC”,trigger mode “negative edge” etc.).
t  To ensure correct oscilloscope response, the value set for the trailing pulse (negative edge) should be approx. 4 V (12 V minus 4 V = trigger voltage 8 V ).
t  After pressing the ON button, the warning lamp in the remote control continues to flash for roughly 30 seconds as a check.
t  After pressing the ON or OFF button, the remote control only transmits the signal for activating or deactivating auxiliary heating/auxiliary ventilation once. The ON or OFF signal can only be transmitted again once the warning lamp has stopped flashing.
t  If no signal is detected, the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- can also be checked without connection to the vehicle aerial system. To do so, disconnect wire to aerial module (window) from auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64-, hold remote control such that there is no interference from components (e.g. metal parts of vehicle body) between remote control and aerial connection of auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- and press remote control buttons.
t  If the auxiliay heater control unit -J364- has detected a fault, certain faults (e.g. power supply “Value too low”) cause this to transmit the message “Power saving” to the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64-. Once the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- has received this information, it switches to power saving mode and can no longer receive remote control signals. If no remote control signal is received, interrogate fault memory of auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and eliminate cause of any faults displayed. Connect up all control units (auxiliary heater control unit -J364- and auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64-) and then briefly start engine (message “Ignition on” must be transmitted via convenience data bus system). Once the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- has received the message “Ignition on”, it switches the auxiliary heating radio controlled receiver -R64- back to reception.
t  The no-load current input of an active remote control receiver (not set to power saving mode) is in the less than 3 mA range (the current input increases as soon as a transmission signal is received).
