Quantity of unburnt fuel in auxiliary heater

Display zoneDisplay
1Quantity of unburnt fuel in auxiliary heater in ml (1/1000 l)
–  The display shows the quantity of fuel calculated by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- which was conveyed into the auxiliary heater combustion chamber by way of actuation of the metering pump -V54- without a flame being detected.
–  The auxiliary heater is deactivated and interlocked once more than approx. 70 ml of fuel has been conveyed into the auxiliary heater combustion chamber without a flame being detected
–
l  Display = 0 ... 20 ml (70 ml for certain versions, see below)
–  If necessary, check operation of the auxiliary heater.
l  Display = 20 ... 60 ml
–  The auxiliary heater may possibly have been activated several times in succession for brief periods and deactivated again before a flame had formed (e.g. operation as supplementary heater in a vehicle with diesel engine used for short journeys)
–  If necessary, check operation of the auxiliary heater.
–  If necessary, check the fuel delivery of the metering pump -V54- → Chapter and the CO 2 content of the auxiliary heater exhaust gas → Chapter
l  Display = 70 ml (auxiliary heater interlocked)
–  Depending on the version of the auxiliary heater, “70” may always be displayed in this zone. This display can be ignored if there is no fault in the auxiliary heater.
–  Interrogate the auxiliary heater fault memory, eliminate the cause of the faults entered and cancel the auxiliary heater interlock by erasing the fault memory → Chapter
–  Check the fuel delivery of the metering pump -V54- → Chapter and the CO 2 content of the auxiliary heater exhaust gas → Chapter
–  Check auxiliary heater operation.

  Note
To prevent too much fuel being conveyed into the combustion chamber in the event of an auxiliary heater fault resulting in no flame formation, the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- interlocks the auxiliary heater.
  WARNING
If there is a considerable quantity of unburnt fuel in the auxiliary heater, there is a possibility of fuel deflagration in the auxiliary heater when the auxiliary heater is first switched on after eliminating the fault. When this fault has been rectified, particular care should therefore be taken to ensure that the auxiliary heater exhaust gas is routed directly into a suitable exhaust gas extractor and drawn off.
