Bleeding clutch system
Bleeding clutch system
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- or brake filling and bleeding equipment -V.A.G 1869-
Brake fluid specification → Brake system; Rep. Gr.47.
Procedure
  Note
t  The clutch system must be bled after performing work on the hydraulic clutch mechanism.
t  Before bleeding the clutch system, pull out clutch pedal and top up brake fluid to “Max” marking on brake fluid reservoir.
t  Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the gearbox. If necessary, clean the gearbox housing.
t  Open the bleeder valve before switching on the bleeding appliance.
–  Connect brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- to brake fluid reservoir, but do not switch on at this stage.

–  If fitted, loosen fasteners -1- and -2- and remove rear noise insulation -B-.

Vehicles with V6 TDI engine:
–  Unbolt heat shield for left-side drive shaft -arrows-.

All models:
–  Attach bleeder hose -A- to slave cylinder and open bleeder valve -arrow-.
–  Connect bleeder hose to pressure hose of collector bottle.
–  Switch on bleeder appliance and allow about 100 cm3 of brake fluid to drain out.
l  Operating pressure: 2.5 bar
  Note
Ensure bleeder hose is correctly fitted during bleeding operation.
–  Close bleeder valve. Tightening torque 4.5 Nm.
–  Depress clutch pedal several times after bleeding process is completed.
–  Bleed system once again if necessary.
–  Disconnect bleeder hose and fit protective cap.
–  Remove brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- from brake fluid reservoir.
Vehicles with V6 TDI engine:
–  Install heat shield for drive shaft (left-side).
All models:
–  If fitted, install rear noise insulation.
