Renewing oil seal for flange shaft (right-side) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Oil seal extractor lever -VW 681-

t  Drift -3382-

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1- Procedure   Note t  General repair instructions → Chapter. t  Observe rules for cleanliness when working on automatic gearbox → Chapter.

–  Loosen bolt -arrow- securing drive shaft to wheel hub (right-side) with vehicle standing on its wheels. –  Remove front right wheel.

–  Remove heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) -arrows-.   Note The third bolt is not shown in the illustration. –  Unbolt drive shaft (right-side) -1- from flange shaft on gearbox → Rep. Gr.40.

–  Remove bolt for flange shaft -arrow- (counterhold flange shaft with drift). –  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox. –  Pull out flange shaft (right-side).

–  Pull out flange shaft oil seal.

–  Lightly lubricate outer circumference of oil seal with gear oil. –  Drive in new oil seal onto stop (take care to keep oil seal straight). l  Installation position: the open side of the oil seal should face the gearbox. –  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-. –  Install flange shaft (right-side).

–  Tighten bolt for flange shaft -arrow- (counterhold flange shaft with drift). –  Bolt drive shaft to flange shaft (right-side) → Rep. Gr.40. –  Install front right wheel → Rep. Gr.44. –  Check oil level in front final drive → Chapter. Tightening torques
