Disconnecting centre silencer and rear silencer - vehicles with four-wheel drive
Disconnecting centre silencer and rear silencer - vehicles with four-wheel drive
t  The connecting pipe can be cut through at the cutting point in order to renew the centre and rear silencers separately.
t  The cutting point is marked by an indentation on the outside of the exhaust pipe.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Chain pipe cutter -VAS 6254-
  A26-0790
Procedure
–  Cut through exhaust pipes at a right angle at cutting point -arrows- using chain pipe cutter -VAS 6254-.
  Note
The middle indentation (of three) on the exhaust pipe is the cutting point.

–  When reassembling, position the clamps -1- and -2- centrally over the cutting point.
  A26-0470
–  Fit clamps so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Bolt connections face outwards.
–  Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter.
–  Tighten bolts on clamps evenly to 40 Nm.
