1 - Turbocharger
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
2 - Gasket
q   Renew
3 - Lambda probe -G39- (before catalytic converter)
q   Black connector
q   Threads of new Lambda probes are already greased with assembly paste; the paste must not get into the slots on the probe body
q   When re-using the old lambda probe, grease thread with high-temperature lubricant; the paste must not get into the slots of the probe body; High-temperature lubricant → Parts catalogue
q   Removing and installing → Motronic injection and ignition system (4-cyl. turbo); Rep. gr.24
q   Tighten to 55 Nm
4 - Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130-
q   Brown connector
q   Threads of new Lambda probes are already greased with assembly paste; the paste must not get into the slots on the probe body
q   When re-using the old lambda probe, grease thread with high-temperature lubricant; the paste must not get into the slots of the probe body; High-temperature lubricant → Parts catalogue
q   Removing and installing → Motronic injection and ignition system (4-cyl. turbo); Rep. gr.24
q   Tighten to 55 Nm
5 - Catalytic converter
q   Protect against knocks and impact
q   Removing and installing together with front exhaust pipe → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
6 - Gasket
q   Renew
7 - 25 Nm
8 - Front exhaust pipe
q   With flexible joint
q   Do not bend flexible joint more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
9 - Clamp (front)
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Installation position of bolts → Fig.
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
10 - 40 Nm
11 - Spacer sleeve
12 - Buffer
13 - Bracket
14 - Washer
15 - 25 Nm
16 - Rear silencer (left-side)
q   Combined in one unit with centre silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Renewing tailpipe → Fig.
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
17 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system - vehicles with front-wheel drive“
18 - 25 Nm
19 - Rear silencer (right-side)
q   Combined in one unit with centre silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Renewing tailpipe → Fig.
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
20 - 40 Nm
21 - Clamps (rear)
q   For individual replacement of centre silencer and the two rear silencers
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
22 - Centre silencer
q   Forms one unit with the two rear silencers as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
23 - 25 Nm
24 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system - vehicles with front-wheel drive“
25 - 25 Nm
26 - Washer
27 - Compression spring
28 - Spacer sleeve
29 - 25 Nm
q   Renew
30 - 40 Nm
q   Renew

   
Installation position of front clamp
–  Install clamp so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Bolt connection faces to left

Installation position of rear clamps
–  Fit clamps so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Bolt connections face outwards.

Renewing tailpipe
–  Cut through old tailpipe -1- at a right angle at cutting point -C- using chain-type pipe cutter -VAS 6254-.
–  Push new tailpipe -3- onto tailpipe as far as marking -A-. Slot on tailpipe should align with marking -B-.
–  Tighten clamp connection -2- to 25 Nm.
