Removing and installing poly V-belt Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-

Removing –  Vehicles with auxiliary heater: remove bolts -arrows- securing exhaust pipe for auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.

–  Release quick-fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation. Leave rear noise insulation in position.   Note

Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. –  Loosen securing bolts of tensioning roller for air conditioner compressor poly V-belt -arrows-. –  Remove poly V-belt.

–  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Remove air ducts -1- and -2-.   Note

Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. –  Turn the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- to slacken the poly V-belt. –  Remove poly V-belt from alternator pulley.

Installing l  Routing of poly-V belt → Anchor. –  Fit poly V-belt onto pulleys for crankshaft, power steering pump, tensioning roller and viscous fan. –  Turn the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- to install the poly V-belt. –  Then position poly V-belt on alternator pulley and release tensioner.

–  Fit poly V-belt for air conditioner compressor. –  Apply torque wrench to hexagon flats on tensioning roller in “seven o'clock” position as shown and tension with a torque of 30 Nm in direction of -arrow-. –  At the same time tighten bolts -A-. –  Check both poly V-belts for proper seating. –  Start engine and check that belt runs properly. Tightening torque
